It’s a new year and time for an update on the interior decor predictions and trends ahead. What’s in? What’s out? The blogosphere is abuzz trying to predict what’s in store for 2015.  What’s the Next Big Thing for home decor?  It’s always fun to hear what the trendsetters are saying about the year ahead.

Get inspired by this recent Style Report from the High Point furniture market:

Gold! Especially mixed gold finishes: Burnished brass, polished brass, gilt, gold leaf, even copper. Look for it in bathroom fixtures, chandeliers and furnishings.

GOLD is going to be everywhere! From lamps to mirrors, brass beds and gold-leaf chests.

Mixing materials and finishes: Acrylic and brass, dark wood and stainless, leather and velvet, gold leaf and antique mirror.

Jewel tones: Rich hues signal rich times. Look for reds and blues in all shades, amethyst, teal, malachite, forest, indigo. And, just like with clothing,  black and white is always fashionable.

One-of-a-kind artisanal luxury: People want to put their own identity on interiors; they want to be able to say “this is special because …”

Multifunctional: Cocktail tables store pillows and lift for laptops, kitchen islands double as tableware and wine storage.

Indoor/Outdoor merge: Outdoor furniture with weatherproof fabrics and childproof designs moves indoors, while outdoor furniture feels more like your living room.

Industrial and “Brutalist” movement: Concrete is especially hot. Concrete tabletops, concrete counters.

Explosion of patterns: After years of beige, look for paisleys, marble prints, Ikats, bright Orientals and traditional blue and white Chinese patterns, and birds, especially peacocks.

Wallpaper: This is one of Zillow Digs top trends for 2015, along with gold, cowhide and mid-century modern.

Modern traditional: Greek key, Chinoiserie, malachite, lamps and hardware that are jewelry for the home.

Natural materials: Agates, geodes, petrified wood.

Natural wood and lots of grain, both casual weathered finishes….

…and luxe parquetry. Natural woods really show their grain this season.

Finally, 2015 is going to be a strong feminine year. Sofas have shape, glamour is back!  Rooms are dressed for a confident future.

What’s OUT you ask? We still have a soft spot for some of the trends listed by House Beautiful Magazine as over in 2015 and some DIY’s that have seen their day….but you be the judge.

Happy New Year!
